The Behavioral Scientist will be responsible for answering questions and developing content related to human behaviors in the realm of financial education and financial wellness. You will carry out basic research (surveys & experiments) and translate behavioral science concepts and research findings into recommendations for stakeholders. You will work in conjunction with the Financial Education team and other stakeholders to support the ongoing development of the financial education program and the company’s overall strategy and goals.

What you will do at First Boulevard:

User Experience and Research

  • Manage the full life cycle of user research (Develop strategy, gather requirements, manage and execute) as it pertains to financial wellness and education.
  • Collect qualitative and quantitative data, translate those research findings into defining clear customer motivations, and make recommendations for financial education content and experience design.
  • Creates a database for the documentation of any research learnings and helps to ensure the application of such learnings.
  • Communicates with the appropriate stakeholders through various channels.

Content Development

  • Develop content and learning strategies based on user feedback and surveys to increase user participation in financial education and improve financial wellness.
  • Develop behavioral statements for the Financial Education Department.
  • In conjunction with the financial education team, develop and implement nudges and other short-form or long-form content surrounding financial behavior to supplement the financial education program.
  • Create a customer persona guide that provides a more in-depth view of our persona to stakeholders.

Product Innovation

  • In conjunction with the Director of Financial Education, collaborate on the development of learning materials, toolkits, and training to support the application of behavioral science and financial wellness.
  • Develop and implement a Financial Wellness Scoring algorithm.
  • In conjunction with kinly data scientists, use our internal data sets to develop informative narratives and insights to improve departments’ offerings.

Requirements:

  • The ideal candidate will exhibit deep customer empathy, be well-versed in a number of research methodologies, and be capable of creating long-term research plans and protocols, involving cross-functional teams in gathering customer feedback and making recommendations based on data.
  • Strong capability in inspecting, cleaning, merging, and transforming large and evolving data from technology-delivered products.
  • Proficiency in at least one statistics program (SPSS, R, SAS, Python, etc.)
  • Deep knowledge of historical limitations of banking and Black America and desire to solve real-world problems.
  • Strong listening, influencing, and communication skills; ability to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner.
  • Experience investigating the feasibility of applying scientific principles and concepts to business problems and products.
  • Experience with qualitative and qualitative methods.
  • Must be able to maintain organization following process and procedures as outlined.
  • Must be able to efficiently manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Self-starter with excellent time management skills.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and thrive with creativity, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Ability to become proficient with new technologies and workplace tools such as ClickUp and Google Suite quickly.
  • Advanced degree in Social Psychology or related field (cognitive psychology, behavioral economics, judgment & decision-making, consumer psychology, marketing, etc.) or equivalent years of experience.
  • Experience leading the execution of research projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Required: At least 5 years of relevant industry (non-academic, full-time, post-graduation) experience as an applied researcher.
  • Preferred Experience with gamification and NLP techniques for developmental assessments (e.g., tests producing robust growth recommendations, 360-degree feedback) and learning applications preferred.
  • Mobile App experience preferred.
  • Start-Up experience preferred.
  • Fintech experience preferred.
